The Dinosaur - Parasaurolophus
Parasaurolophus takes the prize for noisiest of all the dinosaurs. It's hard to imagine what sort of sounds
dinosaurs might have made but experts believe the Parasaurolophus could have created a loud, honking noise much like the loudest trumpet you've ever heard.
This unusual dinosaur had a long head crest which contained nasal passages that doubled back on themselves and allowed the Parasaurolophus to blow air out in a great trumpeting noise.
The forests of Late Cretaceous North America would have been like prehistoric concert halls with all that trumpeting going on!
The crest which swept back from the top of its head was so long a tall (but very thin) man could have fitted inside. Imagine that!
The Parasaurolophus had a tall, narrow tail that was much taller than most of its relatives. Some paleontologists believe it could have been brightly coloured which might have been very useful in attracting the opposite sex. It could have acted like a big advertising billboard – the bigger its tail, the more females it could attract!
